Zinc die casting is a metal casting process characterized by pressing molten metal into the mold cavity. The mold cavity is created using two hardened tool steel molds, which are processed into the net shape or near net shape of zinc die castings.
Zinc alloy is the easiest metal to die cast. Due to its low melting point, good casting performance, high precision, high dimensional stability, and high hardness, zinc alloy can be fully recycled and reused. It is economical to manufacture small parts with zinc alloy. Due to the material price of zinc alloy being close to aluminum, its density is almost twice that of aluminum alloy. So, when the size of the die-casting parts is the same, the material cost of zinc alloy is almost twice that of aluminum alloy.

What is zinc alloy die casting?
Zinc alloy die casting is a precision casting method that uses high pressure to press molten metal into complex shaped metal molds. It is a precision casting method.
Zinc is one of the many metals used in die-casting products. Due to its low melting point, it is one of the easiest and cheapest (in terms of energy consumption for die-casting machines) metals to die cast. Zinc die-casting parts are widely used in industrial, commercial, and even consumer goods fields. Industrial manufacturers use zinc die castings in their machinery.
Die cast zinc automotive parts are widely used in the automotive industry. Zinc die-casting is used as luxurious door and cabinet hardware in commercial environments. New consumer goods such as belt buckles and medals are usually made of die cast zinc. Fasteners, piping components, and door lock devices can also be made of die cast zinc.
Characteristics of Zinc: The easiest metal to die cast. When zinc is used to manufacture small parts, it is economical. Zinc is easy to coat, has high compressive strength and plasticity, and has a long casting life.
Characteristics of Zinc Alloy Die Castings
Zinc alloy is an alloy based on zinc with the addition of other elements. The characteristics of zinc alloy are as follows.
1. High specific gravity, weight, and texture, with higher strength than injection molding. .
2. Good casting performance. Zinc alloy die-casting can be used to manufacture precision parts with complex shapes and thin walls. At the same time, the surface of the casting is also very smooth.
3. Available surface smoothness: electroplating, spraying, painting, polishing, grinding, etc.
4. Zinc alloy does not absorb iron, corrode profiles, or stick to molds during melting and die casting.
5. Good mechanical properties and wear resistance at room temperature.
6. Low melting point. Zinc alloy will melt at 385 ¡ã C and is easy to die cast.
7. Zinc alloy has a strong three-dimensional effect, and after die-casting, the surface may appear granular or wrinkled, requiring polishing. But polishing cannot completely change the physical form.
8. The zinc alloy process and relief patterns are vivid and widely used, but the level of craftsmanship is high, and there may be a small amount of indentation or burrs on the surface.
Precautions for using zinc alloy die-casting parts:
1. Zinc has poor corrosion resistance. When impurities such as lead, cadmium, and tin in the alloy composition exceed the standard, it can cause the casting to age and deform. The manifestation is volume expansion. Mechanical properties, especially plasticity, will significantly decrease. Over time, it may even crack open.
2. Zinc alloy die castings should not be used in high and low temperature (below 0 ¡æ) working environments. Zinc alloys have good mechanical properties at room temperature. However, the tensile strength will significantly decrease at high temperatures, and the impact performance at low temperatures will also significantly decrease.
